Boho Halloween 2020: Skeleton engagement on a roof
Updated: Oct 27
This gorgeous styled shoot happened on a roof of a historic house in Downtown Ypsilanti, overlooking the town's mansions, which served as a perfect Halloween backdrop. The fall colors are peaking in Michigan so we incorporated the surrounding trees into the urban backdrop of the shoot starting at dusk.
The two wore simple white masks that inserted lots of drama into the bohemian vibe. The set was immersed in tons of candles and twinkle lights, laid out on a geometric bohemian carpet. The vintage wicker peacock chair served as a "throne" for the groom, while the bride who wore a gold hand crafted halo crown had a chance to add some expressive movement into their Halloween portraits.
WHAT THEY WORE
The bride wore a gold DIY halo crown that beautifully reflected the candle lit scene.
LONG BLACK HAIR WIG
Her long hair wig added dimension to her otherwise shoulder length hair. You can find it at Spirit Halloween.
The gray fox fur was given to the bride years ago by her grandmother.
Drape top long dress from Calistoga's West of Poppy.
BLACK/ANIMAL PRINT SHOES
Beautiful felt crafted hat by Tardan of Mexico City was purchased along the groom's travel through Mexico.
Simple reusable skeleton mask can be purchased at Spirit Halloween.
Vintage pre owned coat bought second hand.
The rest of his outfit was compiled out of a hemp shirt, jeans and boots.
All the set accessories and decor was DIY, vintage or pre owned to reduce the wasteful purchasing that happens around Halloween season each year.
Once it started getting dark, the candles and the battery powered twinkle lights beautifully lit up the scene. The gold shimmery flame contrasted with the blue tones of the sky after sunset, which created a cinematic, moody, film-like Halloween atmosphere for these engagement photos.
...And for some more Halloween fun, here is a behind the scenes video of the bride sitting in the peacock throne, with her halo crown, completely embracing her character for the night.
