Down-to-earth wedding dresses for adventurous brides
Updated: 2 days ago
If you're planning an intimate wedding or adventure elopement, you might be looking for a beautiful, flattering dress that will allow you to move freely without feeling constrained all day. You are most likely not wildly interested in a fairytale ballgown from a traditional bridal shop, but a gown that simply makes you feel you. The good news is that there are SO many options for incredible wedding dresses that will make you feel like a goddess without paying thousands.
As a Michigan elopement photographer, I must say that despite what your granny thinks, you can really wear whatever you want on your wedding day. One of my favorite dresses was this sparkly art deco dress Jessica wore for her wedding at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. It truly embraced her vibrant personality.
Brenna on the other hand chose a wonderful romantic flowy rose dress and simply paired it with wild florals, classic sandal heels and a loose updo. Absolutely magazine-worthy.
My advice is, wear something you fall in love with and forget about everything else!
You will spend the entire day in your wedding dress, so I can't stress enough that you really want to be comfortable. If you're trying it on, it looks amazing, but you can't imagine spending 12 hours in it, reconsider! If a black dress with a slit makes you comfortable, please go for it!
And now, finally, here is a list of wedding dress options you can consider when shopping for your perfect dress regardless of what your plans for your wedding are.
BHLDN by Anthropologie offers an amazing selection of bohemian, classical, sultry and simple lace wedding dresses. Their pricing usually starts around $1,000. They also carry accessories and wedding shoes. Much recommended, even if you're just looking for some magical inspo!
Lulus is awesome! You can check out their short lace dresses, maxi dresses or venture directly to the bridal section. Kristina wore a beautiful floral dress at her elopement in the Austrian Alps. It looks absolutely dreamy while she walks towards the forest on the soft bed of moss.
If you're looking for AMAZING sustainable fashion, Leanne Marshall creates gorgeous wedding dresses made for movement. They use natural fibers and sustainable textiles packaged in recycled materials or eco bags that completely dissolve in hot water. They provide a selection of ready to wear dresses, but most of their dresses are made to order.
Reclamation brand creates beautiful one of a kind dresses with soul and true magic. They embrace the bohemian vibe and are made with artfully reclaimed and vintage materials. Trista, the owner, offers previously created dress styles or custom designed dresses specifically for you and ships worldwide. Cat wore hers beautifully with her hair down and played with its flowy sleeves.
Rue de Seine Bridal designs beautiful chic wedding gowns and bridal dresses for the modern bride. Their breathtaking embroideries and prints are inspired by the comance and earthy sandstone palette of the wild West. Elements of texture, sun kissed tints, and golden flourishes are used to transport you to paradise, to evoke dreamlike days and warm summer nights. Rue de Seine also offers a selection of bridal denim, for "all the brides who'll be riding from the altar into the sunset on the back of a motorcycle", boho hats, dramatic veils and other accessories.
Bride Erica, who is an amazing writer, found her gorgeous dress on Etsy and she combined it with a vintage wool sweater. You can find all sorts of unique, handmade and one of a kind accessories, wedding dresses and wedding shoes here. Added bonus: it almost feels like a treasure hunt searching for the perfect item!
Anomalie is a dream come true! You can design your own wedding dress that will fit your body type in simple steps that the team will guide you through.. Their motto is: "The wedding industry is broken... so we're fixing it." and obviously, I absolutely LOVE THAT!
As you know, I love it when brides go against the mainstream and wear something bold and beautiful. So, let me know what you think, ladies!
