IMPRESSIONS

FROM THE TRAVEL DIARY

Backpacking to this gem on Earth is not for the faint of heart. The overwhelming presence of dry heat, unfaltering wind, and omnipotent hostility is unsettling. The unlimited power of nature penetrates the bones through your skin. It messes with the mind, because you just unknowingly offered your entire self to this everpresent entity of ancient spirits in the land of vast skies and neverending sacrifices. You set up your shelter for the night and watch the stars above you, until the temperature drops to desert lows. Your breath becomes visible. Energy of nature takes on a human form here, it's everything but kind. If you make a mistake, it swallows you. Your resilient body awakens you at sunrise and you see a ray of light hovering over the neverending lands of convoluted canyons.

REFLECTION CANYON, UTAH | MAY, 2020

There's a certain amount of magic that goes into creating a photograph. It's the imperfections, the quality of light and shadows, the rhythm of the lake and the movement of the lacy wedding dress that mimics the foamy quality of the water. Having the sensitivity to notice a moment that feels magical for an unknown reason in its pure simple form, is a life long learning experience and an art of its own.

Big Sur has a special place in my heart. I have witnessed it in fog, in rain, in glowing sun, at sunset, dusk and sunrise. I have returned and rekindled our spark on numerous occasions, because I couldn't stand the void in my life. I crave its presence every day. Quietly observing the landscape that shifts from turquoise waters glowing in California's sun to melancholic Beatnik paradise of wild, rugged landscape and unrestrained waves of the Pacific ocean.
